  • SCOOP Transtracheal oxygen is a superior method of delivering oxygen directly into the lungs through a small, flexible catheter (about the diameter of a coffee stir straw) which passes through a tract (a skin covered tunnel) from the lower neck into the trachea or windpipe. Oxygen flows through this catheter with twice the efficiency of nasal delivery and eliminates the terrible discomfort to the nose and ears plus is much cleaner than dirty nasal prongs. Two procedure options are available to establish the small tract. Both are safe and cause little discomfort. Speech remains normal. Both procedures are reversible, but very few revert to nasal prongs. Daily care is easily learned and becomes a routine of daily hygiene. Results compared to nasal oxygen show that SCOOP users live longer, are healthier, have greater exercise capacity, breathe easier, have fewer hospitalizations and have lower health care costs.
